Last Week’s Program
Former city councilman Trey Hicks (invited by Joe Hoffman) spoke about TORCH — Transformation Opportunities and Revitalizing Communities for Hart.
TORCH formed in 2012 to preserve Hartwell’s history and help prepare for the future. Trey shared how the first projects focused on the old depot and the Railroad St. area — now completed and enjoyed by the public.
What was once a problem area has become a place of beauty.
More improvements are planned, including a physical fitness area. TORCH is looking for help to maintain and improve the area.
Clean-up Day: Saturday, October 3. TORCH meets the third Thursday of each month.
Trey also discussed rail deliveries to Red Line Plastics and the failed safety test on the lake bridge, which has stopped trains from crossing the lake.
He shared plans connected to the old Rios restaurant building: restoring track, the old car, the turntable behind Synovus, and electrifying the car to create an attraction that tells Hartwell’s history.
