The Bull-A-Ton: October 19, 2026
The Hartwell Kiwanis Club meets Mondays at noon at Casa Grande, 392 E. Franklin Street in Hartwell, Georgia.
This Week
Daryl Gumz will install the club’s new officers and lead Child Protection Training for Kiwanians who work with children.
Last Week: Ruth Daniel and Nurses Care
Ruth Daniel shared the mission behind her Nurses Care program and the urgent need to strengthen the nursing workforce. She explained that nurses do far more than perform clinical tasks: they assess, educate, advocate, coordinate care, recognize subtle changes and often serve as the human connection between a complicated medical system and a frightened patient.
We need nurses there when people need them.
Ruth noted that nursing shortages remain a serious national concern. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects approximately 180,000 registered-nurse openings each year over the next decade. She also discussed workforce departures, hospital vacancy rates, turnover and the length of time required to fill open nursing positions.
To advance Nurses Care, Ruth has continued strengthening her own academic credentials and is working toward her doctorate. Her goal is to better understand what prevents people from entering nursing and identify practical ways communities can help.
The club appreciates Ruth’s dedication to tackling this important challenge. Thank you as well to Terry Stewart and Randy Daniel for inviting her to speak.
